“Small Things Like These” and Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries
Blog Article
During my work abroad experience with IES Abroad, I wrote a blog article for an online radio station about the movie "Small Things Like These" and the history of Magdalene laundries in Ireland. Before writing this article, I conducted secondary research about the Magdalene laundries, the Catholic church's role in operating the laundries, the women who were trapped, and the movie itself. The article was optimized for SEO by using keywords related to Irish history and the movie, but it was written for a general audience. This article was written to promote Irish film and to share the real history behind the subject matter depicted in the film.
During this internship, I also served as Blog Editor for my peers, none of whom spoke English as a first language. As Blog Editor, I reviewed topics, edited articles by focusing on the Clarity, Consistency, and Correctness (3 C's) and using the ARMS (Add, Remove, Move, Substitute) method, provided language guidance to non-native English-speaking writers, and helped develop SEO keywords tailored to each article.
